Ben Affleck to play Batman in Man of Steel Sequel

The news that was announced over night, well for me anyway. I woke up to a Twitter feed full of shock, some anger and well many mixed feelings. The announcement that had been racking everyones minds since SDCC 2013, who will be playing Batman in Man of Steel 2? Well the announcement was made and Ben Affleck has been cast. This is to be an older Batman. A mature Batman, established crime fighter. I have tried desperately all day to not base any opinion on this from my overall thoughts on the only other superhero film I have seen Ben Affleck in, Daredevil, as that would not be fair. Ben Affleck now has an Oscar to his name for his award winning film Argo. I've read a lot of things on the internet along the lines of Affleck will only Direct a film if he is acting in it also, WB want him for Justice League so if he is Batman then that will work. The only real opinion I currently have is that Affleck is going to have a tough job pleasing an even tougher crowd, Nolan and Bale set the bar so very high with their Dark Knight trilogy that to take on the cowl so soon could really only be taken on by an older actor, one with experience. Lets not forget though that Nolan is involved in this film. I am going to reserve any criticism until the film is released, or maybe the trailer, the film now has a release date of 17/07/3015.

Man of Steel wasn't quite the film I expected and I am hoping that this may do something to rectify that. The quote during the original announcement was from Dark Knight Returns and after recently watching the animated Movie for the comic of the same title I find it hard to think they would chose to do a Live-Action one so soon. It may sound obscure but I actually feel the animated film was ten times better than Man of Steel. But heres to hoping Affleck will surprise his critics and please those who have been supporting an have faith.

Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. New Promo! "The New World"

Jeff Lemire will help a Justice League move to a new home in Canada!

Announced today at Toronto FanExpo, Jeff Lemire's new project was announced to be Justice League of, well, Canada. Post Trinity War a Justice League team will be setting up shop North of the American border in Canada. Lemire seems very enthusiastic regarding this change of locale and has stated he can not wait to introduce us to the team he has put together, not believing who DC have allowed him to have, featuring Superheroes old and new alongside a couple of new characters with Canadian background.

A superhero team in Canada, your thinking thats been done before right? What about Alpha Flight? Well Lemire has been quick to state although there are similarities this will not be a fully fledged soully Canadian team, as was Alpha Flight. But until Lemire or DC announce the lineup let the guessing commence.

This Weeks Stack 21-08-2013

Dragon Age Inquisition: A World Unveiled

This trailer really has left me super excited for this game. Fall 2014 seems so far away. But after watching this and knowing that the next game in the Mass Effect Franchise is being developed on the same engine I have very high hopes for two of my favourite titles going into next Gen. Check out this video released during Gamescom below.

Marvel: X-Men Battle of the Atom an Anniversary Event

2 weeks time sees the release of Battle of the Atom #1 the first issue of the event before it takes over several of the X-Titles. All New X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, X-Men and Wolverine & The X-Men. I am really excited for this event, and after finally getting the opportunity to get into the characters post Avengers vs X-Men I really have high hopes for this event. Art Adams will be producing characters for each chapter and some of these look great, one of my favourites being the cover to All New X-Men #16. Please see the cover for #1 to the left. Are you looking forward to this X-Event? Find the checklist at the bottom of this post.

American Vampire Anthology Creator List Confirmed

Francesco Francavilla kindly released a picture of the team ups and who is working on which story and the titles for the upcoming American Vampire Anthology. Looks like I guessed wrong and Jeff Lemire is Scribe pairing with Ray Fawkes for their story, I originally thought Lemire would be writing and illustrating. This is a definite must have and I cannot wait to get my hands on a copy!

The Wallet Breaker that is 28th of August!

It may still be a week away, and I’m not forgetting the great comics that will be coming out this week but 28-08-2013 is going to be a wallet breaker and also a very exciting week especially in my opinion. From the Previews World list for this date my pull list is as follows;

Star Wars Legacy #6
American Vampire Anthology #1
Batman Superman #3
Batman Inc Special #1
Collider #2
Avengers Arena #14
Captain America #10
Deadpool #15
FF #11
Journey Into Mystery #655
Secret Avengers #8
Thor God of Thunder #12
Uncanny Avengers #11

Uncanny X-Men #11
Young Avengers #9

Why are some of these issues in bold? Let me tell you;

American Vampire Anthology #1: A must buy for any American Vampire Fan or fan of, this is quite a long list, Becky Cloonan, Jordie Bellaire, Jason Aaron, Declan Shalvey, Jeff Lemire, Fabio Moon, Gabriel Ba and of course the creators themselves Scott Snyder and Francesco Francavilla, this list of creators is certainly the reason I cannot wait for this title. A story written and illustrated by Becky Cloonan, who recently received an Eisner for her self-published comic The Mire, with colours from the brilliant Jordie Bellaire. A story from Jason Aaron illustrated by Declan Shalvey, Aaron has described this as the closest you will get to a Scalped/ American Vampire cross over.  I imagine Jeff Lemire’s mention on the creator list will involve a story written and illustrated by him. With the already proven and tested team of Moon and Ba with their own American Vampire story. This will be one of the highlights of the month.

Batman Inc Special #1: Another Anthology to be released by DC on the same day, at least they can put great creative teams together and initiatives together for some books the less said about Villains Month the better.  Featuring a story for each member of Batman Incorporated DC have pulled together another great list of talent for this issue. Plus Bat-Cow will get a feature which I think everyone will want to see. Less has been revealed regarding the creative team ups on this title however I believe I am right in thinking that Joe Keatinge, the brilliant writer of Glory, will be scribing one of the stories. Plus I also think the Declan Shalvey will be lending his art duties to this issue as well. Plus we get more Burnham art which you cannot complain about.

Captain America #10: This will be the conclusion to Remender’s first arc on the character. I have really enjoyed this Sci-fi Cap tale, it was a nice direction for the character after the heavily war and espionage lead Brubaker run. I look forward to seeing how Cap escapes Dimension Z and also this is the one comic left which I enjoy Romita Jnr’s art in, seeing as I am not to keen on Kick Ass, it will be a shame to no longer read a comic with his pencils once a month. This should be a thrilling conclusion to a Cap story I finally enjoyed.

Deadpool #15: Those who know me know I am a big fan of the art produced by Declan Shalvey, and teaming up with his partner Jordie Bellaire providing colour for his interiors you know this is going to be a beautiful looking book. Shalvey will be illustrating the story by the successful team of Gerry Duggan and Brian Posehn who's first arc Dead Presidents was one of my favourite Deadpool stories since I began reading Daniel Way's Deadpool way back during Secret Invasion. Featuring Captain America and Wolverine with a title The Good The Bad and The Ugly you just know this arc is going to be great!

Thor God of Thunder #12: Well Aaron has just finished his epic first major story for the God of Thunder, who successfully defeated the God Butcher, with Thor past, present and future. Now the Asgardian Avenger deserves a little down time. This issue sees the return of Nic Klein to a Marvel comic, after the sad news of Winter Soldier’s cancellation, which is reason enough to grab the issue. Klein has worked with this sort of character before alongside Ivan Brandon on Vikings for image comics, so I have faith that he will draw a fantastic Thor, I’ve been looking forward to this issue since it was announced in the solicitations months back!

Uncanny Avengers #11: Remender continues his Ragnarok Now storyline alongside Acuna on art duties. This became Marvel’s new flagship title post Avengers vs X-Men and the leader of the Marvel NOW! initiative. Remender has done a great job of constructing, deconstructing both the Team and the Characters. Stability has been brought to the monthly distribution since Daniel Acuna arrived on art duty, and what a great job he has done. With McNiven confirmed for art duties from November when Ragnarok Now really comes to a head you just know that this is a book to keep your eye on!

Young Avengers #9: One of the best books to come out of Marvel NOW! Young Avengers from Kieren Gillen and Jamie McKelvie, this has been a must read each month it is released. The top of my stack for its week this is a must read and is not put to the side for a future rainy day. McKelvie has been on fire with his art for this series, playing round with the format and how to layout the panels and Gillen has brought some wonderful character work to these teenage Marvel characters currently dimension hopping after an enemy who looks an awful lot like Patriot. Yet another issue I can’t wait to get my hands on!

The Invincible Haggard West #101: My Comic of the Week 14-08-2013

With the likes of Thor God Of Thunder #11 and Infinity #1 on the shelves this week I certainly did not expect to have Paul Pope’s one shot The Death of Haggard West as my pick of the week but let me explain to you why. Paul Pope has been a name I have heard a lot of since I started reading comics but the only work I am really aware of him doing, to my shame, is Batman Year 100. So I took this opportunity to finally grab a Paul Pope comic, comic which after grabbing my regular stack I returned to the store to grab a copy, and I am very happy I did so. This comic is an introduction of sorts to the world that Paul Pope’s upcoming Graphic Novel Battling Boy will be set. Pope illustrates his scenes with a great pace and energy, a style that makes me think of Emma Rios and Becky Cloonan a mixture of sorts, from the steady introduction to the characters and the setting to the sudden arrival of our hero and the action that ensues. You are immediately drawn to the Hero and his dramatic arrival to save the children who are in peril, being attacked by the monsters, villains and evil that appear in the dark. The dialogue of the monsters and villains tell you Haggard West has been a Hero to his people for some time, but with my greatest Admiral Ackbar impression ‘It’s a Trap’. In this comic Pope invites you to witness the death of the World’s hero, the loss to the people and most of all his daughter, the monument to him proof of the hero he was to the people, a hero who I wish I had the chance to actually have read the adventures of, while also setting up an interesting, exciting and perilous world for the arrival of Battling Boy. There is a great interview on CBR with Paul Pope discussing his upcoming novel Battling Boy and also talking about this issue and Haggard West, http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=46144

Infinity #1! My Thoughts on Marvel Comics First Installment For Their Most Recent Event!

It’s finally here! Marvel’s Infinity event kicked off this week from the team of Jonathan Hickman and Jim Cheung and let’s not forget colours by Justin Ponsor. This event has been built up to for some time, within both Hickman’s flagship Avengers titles, the 5 issue limited series Thanos Rising, and other plot points taking place within Guardians of the Galaxy and FF. I have the luxury of collecting all but one of these titles, which has definitely helped me in having a better idea of what is taking place and characters involved. Because of this it is hard for me to judge whether this is new reader friendly, Marvel usually attempt to make these events readable without having to have been keeping up with the past 2 years of Marvel Universe history, but it certainly did help having read many of the new Marvel NOW! titles up to now.

This comic contains The Illuminati, The Builders, The Avengers, Inhumans and also Thanos and the first appearance of his Black Order. Along with several different space faring species among them the Skrulls and also the Space Knights of Galador, who I will be honest I had no idea existed till I read this comic.  All in all going by the introduction to the cast this issue contains 44 characters along with the groups. It is no secret that this title involves Thanos, he has been all over the promotional material and this is his first real major appearance in the comics since his cameo at the end of the Avengers film, not counting his appearance in Avengers Assemble.

The comic opens within the same event from New Avengers #6, there has been another incursion and the Illuminati have to destroy the world to save their own, if you have been reading New Avengers you would know that the incursions have begun to happen more frequently. This is what has been the main plot point throughout Hickman’s New Avengers run. Not much is really given away about why this is happening within Infinity #1 and to get a real understanding it is certainly worth picking up issues 1-8 of New Avengers.

We then get to a new chapter within the story, that was originally released within the Free Comic Book Day issue in May, the first appearance of Corvus Glaive and his Outrider scouting for secrets and worlds that must pay Thanos’ tribute. Corvus Glaive would appear to be the senior within Thanos’ Black Order and is clearly immensely powerful having beaten the Champion of Ahl-Agullo, a planet recently raised to the ground by his master showing the true devastation that can be caused by Thanos and his Black Order. Is this the fate that awaits Earth?

These first two chapters appear to form a prologue for the issue introducing us to several characters and plot points that will feature within the future of the story. This chapter format really is vital in helping to introduce the different aspects to the story, weaving an intricate tapestry, and also the new characters that will be pivotal to the on-going plot.

After this prologue you are hit with the movie like double page introducing the title and credits, followed by an extensive billboard of who is who within this epic. You are then introduced to one of the main antagonists The Builders, introduced within the first arc of Hickman’s Avengers run. However, even if you have not been following Avengers this issue does a good job of introducing the characters and their intentions. Originally created to help create life the Builders have turned and are now systematically destroying Civilisations and planets, they helped to create, on a route that takes them on a crash course with Earth. Within this chapter we are introduced to even more new characters the Space Knights of Galador and in turn their planet currently being destroyed by the Builders. The Space Knights gallantly fight on but to no avail, confirmed by the arrival of Captain Universe who affirms that there is no saving Galador, she is there to witness the beginning of the end.

“Orbital” we finally see the appearance of Earth and the heroes we all know, the Avengers, being called in to supervise a threat that turns out to be Skrull Refugees, what could be forcing these aliens to seek refuge on Earth? The Builders or Thanos? We are then introduced to yet another group the Inhumans and also the purpose of the Outrider who is seeking secrets from within the mind of Black Bolt, what secret does he hold that Thanos seeks? The Avengers are made aware of the threat of the Builders from a distress call sent by the Kree from one of their secret outposts under attack. Here a character with a similar look to Ex Nihilo is visible confirming the Builder threat and also leaving Ex Nihilo confused as to why this is happening. This course of events leads to the Avengers deciding that they must head into space to meet the impending Builder threat leaving only Iron Man and a handful of heroes back on Earth. With Earth in his sights this is pleasing news for Thanos to hear that Earth has no Avengers, queue evil grin.

There is a lot to take in within this first issue, the amount of teams and characters involved. The most important being the Builders, Thanos, Inhumans and Avengers. This issue has definitely left me wanting more and having read the issues of Avengers and New Avengers up to this point I do have a greater understanding of the characters involved. This issue does a great job of the different threats facing Earth and the possible outcom, seen through both the destruction of Ahl-Agullo by Thanos and Galador by the Builders. With the Avengers having left the planet to attempt to stall or stop the Builder threat this leaves Earth to the mercy of Thanos and his Black Order and if anyone knows anything about the character these two scenarios coninciding leave the Earth in peril and can only, and hopefully, lead to an explosive event.

This issue is wonderfully illustrated by Jim Cheung with beautiful colours by Justin Ponsor which really help to give a character to the different corners of the Marvel Universe. Hickman’s choice to segregate the story into various chapters really helps to introduce us to the vast mix of characters and also the different plot points that are clearly important as they have been given their own chapter to be brought to our attention. Dustin Weaver and Jerome Opena will be illustrating the next issue, previews are already available on Comic Book Resources for issue 2 and as to be expected the art is of the same standard as Cheung, clearly Marvel have a lot invested in this title with the team put together for it.

You don't have to wait long for more Infinity action as Hickman continues his event is Avengers #18 released this week with interiors from Leinil Yu, yet another book that is sure to look great. From reading this first issue I would strongly recommend that if you are to pick up any tie-ins to this event I would be sure to pick up Avengers and New Avengers by Hickman as these are bound to hold important moments alongside the main story in Infinity, along with if you have the chance to catch up with all Avengers and New Avengers up to now to give you a better background regarding the new characters in both the Avengers and New Avengers I would really think it would be worth it.

I for one am very pleased with this first issue, reading it several times over, and I look forward to what comes next. How is this going to play out? Who is going to protect the Earth? Which is the real threat? This first issue does a great job of setting up this event and now I just want to see what happens!  Please don’t let me down Hickman and make me realise what a great Marvel event can be again.

Marvel Comics: Infinity #1 Begins Tomorrow!

Infinity, A Marvel Comics Event, begins tomorrow which I am very excited for. Hickman and Cheung bring us the first issue. Cheung has not been on interiors for some time, possibly since Avengers: The Childrens Crusade, but he has been providing some incredible covers for Spider-Men and Avengers vs X-Men. I can not wait to see more of his work for this title, after seeing the teaser in the Infinity Free Comic Book issue and also within the preview art that has been making its way around the internet.

Hickman has been putting this story together since the beginning of his Avengers run and the storyline has been set up within his titles along with his fellow creators titles on FF and Guardians of the Galaxy for a couple.

I strongly recommend you pick this up tomorrow, and I hope that Hickman will reinstate my faith in Marvel Comics Event's especially after the anticlimax of previous events, Avengers vs X-Men being one of them.

Dustin Weaver and Jerome Opena will be sharing art duties with Jim Cheung on this event, with Leinil Yu on the Avengers tie ins and Deodato Jnr on the New Avengers tie ins, this is definitely going to be one good looking book. To have a look at the preview art for yourself check out the link below, and also the free comic book day issue is now available on the Marvel Comics App;

Image Comics: Pretty Deadly #2

With Image Comics Solicitations for November, released today, we got our first chance of seeing the cover work to Pretty Deadly #2 from superstar creative team of Kelly Sue DeConnick, Emma Rios and Jordie Bellaire. The first issue is to be released in October, and I have been looking forward to this title and creator team up for some time since it was teased last year.

Emma Rios and Jordie Bellaire produced an incredible cover for the first issue but this second issue somehow manages to improve on that. This cover is just gorgeous, the composition and illustration paired with the fantastic and eye catching colours from Jordie Bellaire, quite how Bellaire manages to colour all the projects she is currently on is beyond me but she manages to consistently produce brilliant colours for covers and interiors on them all.

Emma Rios released images of the wraparound cover on her Tumblr, see them below, check these out and see what you think for yourself.

Image Comics: Black Science #1 Character Designs

iFanboy have a great peek at the characters designs and concept work for Remender and Scalera's upcoming creator owned title Black Science from Image Comics.

Image comics have some great titles coming out over the next few months, but this is definitely one of the titles I am most excited about. With the solicitations released today we know this will be hitting our shelves at the end of November, November 27th according to the solicits, so put the date in your diary.

Remender is one of the top writers right now and Scalera is currently on Indestructible Hulk producing some incredible work, some of the best Hulk I have read in a long time and I can not wait to see what he produced for Black Science!

My One to Watch 14-08-2013: Thor God of Thunder #11

Thor God of Thunder from Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic has probably been one of the standout books to come out of Marvel NOW! and with issue 11 marks the end of their first major arc for the character with the conclusion of Godbomb and also Thor's battle with his nemesis Gorr the God Butcher.

Thor, Past, Present and Future take the fight to Gorr, and with the ignition of the God Bomb threatening the destruction and extinction of all Gods and Deities throughout the cosmos never has the weight more been on Thor's shoulders to save the day. It will be sad to see this brilliant story come to an end but at the same time I can not wait for what is sure to be an Epic conclusion.

If you haven't yet been picking up this title then you really should, and if you have been I am sure you are as excited for this as I am. With the incredible cover, to the left, from Ribic promising hammering thunder and shattering lightning we will be looking at a shocking conclusion.

Marvel: Superior Spider-Man #17 Colour Preview... Spider-Man 2099!!

Last week marked the first colour preview of Ryan Stegman's return to Superior Spider-Man with the tough job of drawing fan favourite character Spider-Man 2099. I for one from these previews think he has done a fantastic job and between Stegman and Ramos, Spider-Man is certainly one of the titles with some of the best art on show.

Stegman is somewhat of a rising star within the ranks at Marvel, having previously worked on Fantastic Four and Scarlet Spider before getting his chance on Superior Spider-Man illustrating the first issue in this new era for Spider-Man. These colour preview pages for the upcoming Spider-Man 2099 arc are looking great and shows how Stegman is going from strength to strength with each issue he draws, his lively drawing style and animated pencils really bring a great energy to the characters and scenes he draws.

How will Superior Spider-Man react to the arrival of Spider-Man 2099? Dan Slott is really bringing his A-Game to Otto Octavius Spidey and although I keep wondering when Peter Parker will make his return right now I'm not even sure I want him to. I can not wait to pick up this issue up when it is released in 3 weeks time.

DC Comics: The Justice League 3000 confusion

Original Justice League 3000 #1 cover by
Kevin Maguire according to DC Comics site.
So the end of last week ended with a lot of news and confusion as to who would be the artist on Justice League 3000. Kevin Maguire announced he had been fired from the title. This was later confirmed with him announcing with more detail that he had been removed from the title and instead had been offered other work at DC, and also rumours of Marvel work, and that it had been explained to him why there had been the creative shift, although sounding disappointed about this change he was a lot more pleasant about the situation than some previous creators have been when situations have arisen at DC previously.

So with Maguire off who comes on, well the artist who drew the concepts of course, and the collaborator who previously worked on JLA with Grant Morrison, Howard Porter. Seeing as it was these concepts that got me intrigued about the possibilities for this title  I am still very much looking forward to this title, along with this announcement though sees the title being struck back down the line to a December 2013 release!

Image Comics: Saga returns to our shelves this Wednesday with #13

Brian K Vaughan and Fiona Staples finally bring us the next issue of Saga coming out this Wednesday. After winning an Eisner Award for Best Series at this year's Eisner awards and consistently having some of the best cover art by Staples to hit the shelves, which are matched by her interiors.

Its been several months since the last issue was revealed so you may need to find your comic box and retrieve issue 12 to get back on track with what is going on. I for one am looking forward to this next issue, but not quite as much as I have been back when the title first started being released, but that may be to do with the long breaks between some issues.

I'm sure the wait will end up being worth it and I will most probably be ranting and raving about how good Saga is again come Thursday.

Dark Horse Comics: The Star Wars! 8 Issue Series beginning 04-09-2013

Dark Horse have released a fantastic trailer for their upcoming adaption of George Lucas's original script for Star Wars titled, well, The Star Wars. This is also heavily influenced by Ralph McQuarie's original concept art and is being drawn by Mike Mayhew and the preview work released up to now has looked incredible. If you haven't yet been convinced by the news of this title yet check out the Video below!

My Pick of the Week 07-08-2013

Trillium #1

Publisher: Vertigo Comics

Writer/ Artist: Jeff Lemire

I went into the store this week with the opinion that even before reading this title it would be my Pick of the Week. Having only recently read Jeff Lemire's work, surprisingly one of the first comics I read by him was the digital first Adventures of Superman issue which is certainly worth a download for 69p.

Theres something about Lemire's unconventional drawing style that make his comics appeal to me, the illustrations just suit his stories so well, his Essex County collection for example, the hand drawn style that tells a story in itself like someone illustrating their own life as the time goes by. Although if you are to read Essex County I strongly recommend the advice I did not take, which is be prepared to feel a little low and down afterwards. Lemire's previous work I have read has mostly been black and white but here he adds his own watercolours to his illustrations, giving it that more personal sketchbook tone.

This issue is a bit mind bending and so very cleverly formatted being in the style of a flipbook introducing us to two very different characters who should never have met, each character starting at either end of the comic, further displaying the distance between them but through the events of each of their  stories and some incredible circumstance they end up meeting once you hit that centre page.

Minor spoilers from this point forward. Our first character a female human from the future,Nika, desperately scouring the universe for the only element, a flower known as Trillium, which can save the human race from a disease that is hunting down and constantly adapting to kill them. This leads her to a planet where these flowers have been found within a ancient culture and homestead of an alien race. Nika is granted entry into what is clearly a Mayan/ Aztec ruin which leads to some trigger travelling her through space and time as she explores these ruins. The male character, William, we meet fighting in World War One, Lemire dramatically illustrating the horror that was the trenches. This then leads to him at some sort of Museum exhibition where events lead him on an expedition and field trip to find a ruin mentioned by this Archaeologist and adventurer who curated the exhibition. Throughout his field trip he has flashbacks of his time in WWI, and during the course of this expedition William and his team are attacked by natives, queue more flashbacks and frantic running and evasion which end up with him arriving at the ruin and meeting a certain time travelling Nika from the future who has somehow just stumbled out of this ruin. You can feel their eyes meet as you reach the center page and the end of each of their stories for this issue

This format is so so clever, the stories running parallel to one another and both characters meeting once you hit the middle of the book, by the end of this first issue I felt I knew about the perilous position of Nika and her mission to save the Human race and also the sad history of William and his inner demons caused by fighting in WW1. I really hope that although these two have now met and are together the book will keep the same format going throughout this limited series. A very fun and interesting way of doing a point of view take on characters.

I was intrigued by this comic when it was announced and after familiarising myself with Lemire's work since its announcement sometime back I had high hopes for this title and it didn't disappoint. If you haven't picked up Trillium yet and fancy trying something a little different to your mainstream Marvel and DC titles I strongly recommend you visit your local store and grab a copy now!

This Weeks Stack 07-08-2013

A smaller stack this week, good for the bank balance thought. Plus one word TRILLIUM! TRILLIUM! TRILLIUM!

Thor God of Thunder Nic Klein art and Aaron talks Godbomb

Newsarama have a great interview with Jason Aaron about his current God Bomb arc on Thor God of Thunder and also they have some great work from Nic Klein from issue #12 that he will be working on.

Thor God of Thunder has really been one of the standouts of Marvel NOW. Ribic has done a great job of illustrating Aaron's epic story containing 3 time jumping Thor's, future, past and present to save the day fighting a war against a self appointed God Butcher.

Thor will be double shipping this month and following what I can only imagine will be the dramatic conclusion of God Bomb we will find Thor during his "downtime", illustrated by the fantastic Nic Klein who worked on the incredible Winter Soldier with Jason Latour and Vikings with Ivan Brandon.

For the interview and more news on the title check out the link; http://www.newsarama.com/18597-jason-aaron-talks-endings-beginnings-in-thor-god-of-thunder.html

Marvel: Thor: The Dark World Trailer hits YouTube Geek Week!

So the new Thor trailer has been released. There are some great moments in this trailer showing that this sequel is going to be a lot darker than the first. There is more from the wonderful Tom Hiddleston as Loki and great moments for members of the supporting cast. The great thing is there is also some humour within it to help stop the obvious dark mood from taking over this film. But why don't you see for yourself and see what you think.

Marvel: Declan Shalvey takes on Deadpool in August starting with Issue 15!

There is a great interview with Declan Shalvey on the Marvel website by Paul Montgomery. Shalvey answers question on how he has been working with this quirky character.

My first taste of Deadpool was when I started reading his new title during Secret Invasion and he soon became one of my favourite characters. He brought the comedy to comics which I could not find in most other titles at that time when I first began collecting.

Since then and most recently he has received his Marvel NOW update and the comedy duo of Gerry Duggan and Brian Posehn have taken on the duty of this fan favourite character.

Declan Shalvey will be joining them for this new arc, "The Good The Bad and The Ugly" which includes the appearance of both Wolverine and Captain America. Declan Shalvey is one of my favourite artists right now and I can not wait to finally pick this up when it is released this month. I collected the first Marvel NOW Deadpool arc featuring the Dead Presidents story but this will be the first time since that ended that I will be picking the title up again. Another highlight is that this comic will be coloured by his long time cover collaborator Jordie Bellaire, and if you have not seen their cover work then you really should check out the covers for the most recent issues of Venom and the unfortunately ended Winter Soldier Series.

For more details on how Shalvey has approached the character among other things check out his interview with Paul Montgomery in the link below, this also contains some great pencil layouts and cover art for the issues;

Man of Steel Sequel: Who will be Batman?

So spiralling out of probably one of the most talked about announcements from SDCC '13 is the topic of who will play Batman, who will supposedly be taking on Superman in what is strongly believed to be a versus film, which will obviously end up with a greater threat arriving and the two having to ally themselves with one another and create the super team up everyone has been waiting for.

So who will play the Batman, I have been reading several sites who all say the same that this will be a Batman who has been around awhile, no origin required, his been doing his thing for some time and is heard of and feared as is to be expected.

The two main candidates the various sites are making a lot of noise about are either Josh Brolin or Ryan Gosling, who both have both appeared in Warner Bros productions, most recently in Gangster Squad. I can't choose between the two, my only thoughts are I find it hard to picture Ryan Gosling as Batman, and Josh Brolin fits the bill but is he to old to play the character, but really if the performance is right then age shouldn't be a concern. I suppose if I had to choose Brolin would be the one.

All I know is that Batman returning to our screens so soon after Nolan's ground breaking take on the character in his Dark Knight Trilogy I would not want to be the actor who has to take this iconic role in the Super Hero Team Up film everyone has been waiting for.

My Game of the Month July 2013: Lego Harry Potter Years 1 to 4

I have had Lego Harry Potter sitting on my shelf for some time now and finally got around to playing and completing the story last month.

Lego create some great games for various franchises, Star Wars, Batman, Pirates of the Caribbean to name a few, and Tt Games do a great job of creating humorous Lego versions of scenes from the famous films.

Another reason this was such a fun game to play, and one of the main ones, was the chance to play co-op with another player! For me my fellow lego Witch or Wizard at Lego Hogwarts was my beautiful fiancee Laura, check out her design Blog by clicking her name, I may be biased but her designs are great!

But back to the game. Together, evening after evening we sat in front of the tv controller in hand completing chapter after chapter. There was funny times and frustrating times, but this game brought us together for things we both love. The gameplay and story stay true more to the Films than the Books and as mentioned earlier have some great takes on scenes from the films. The gameplay and aiming of spells can be a little niggly at times and also jumping from platform to platform can be quite challenging.

As with other Lego games you have to collect lego coins to become a "True Wizard", which becomes quite difficult when your co-op player keeps deciding to fall of the map or shatter into lots of little bricks loosing many a lego coin, there are fun tasks to complete to collect different sections of the Hogwarts crest. Saving Students in Peril among plenty of other things which award you with gold bricks.

Plenty of spells to learn and fun Lego related levels based on the films, theres plenty of fun to have firing spells at your co-op player and computer controlled characters, exploring Lego Hogwarts is fun, unlocking different areas and completing tasks. The lessons to learn the spells are always good fun and sometimes challenging, my favourite was learning the spell to stop the pixies with Professor Lockhart. Ironically one of my least favourite of the films being one of my favourite in this Lego Game.

This game contains hours of fun, and we only touched the main storyline. You have the opportunity to return to each level with chosen characters to complete the game 100% completing all tasks, collecting all Gold Bricks and becoming the truest of "True Wizards" but we are yet to take advantage of this but maybe many years from now we will have spent more evenings completing each chapter.

If you're looking for a great fun game to play with your partner or friend, and also a Harry Potter fan, I wholeheartedly recommend this game.

Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Gets New Poster!

During the course of yesterday afternoon the cast and crew of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. one by one released each piece of the puzzle to create this awesome poster below. If anyone was in doubt this is indeed a new TV Series, and in a recent interview with Joss Whedon and Jeph Loeb they said that they want this to link in as much as possible with the Movies, as they are all within the same universe, with Clark Gregg back as Agent Coulson already involved and Cobie Smulders reprising her role as Maria Hill for the pilot episode it is already quite evident this TV Series will make reference to the heroes of the films and I can not wait for the 24/09/2013.

Marvel: Nova gets new scribe Gerry Duggan in November!

Marvel today released the news that Gerry Duggan, currently on Deadpool with his partner in crime Brian Posehn, will be taking on writing duties for Nova from November. I look forward to the humour that Duggan will hopefully bring to the character Sam Alexander, I really enjoyed the "Dead Presidents" arc at the beginning of his Deadpool run and also can't wait for his upcoming Deadpool story "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly".

Duggan will team up with current Nova artist Paco Medina once Zeb Well's 5 issue run, including the upcoming Infinity Tie-Ins come to an end.

Nova is currently one of my favourite titles to have come out of Marvel NOW, being a character I haven't read much on in the past, and after Jeph Loeb and Zeb Wells finish their work with the character, Duggan really seems a good fit to take the character further.

DC Batman Inc Special and Vertigo American Vampire Anthology Preview!

DC have left me a little disappointed in recent months, especially with the likes of the oncoming Villains Month. But two comics they will be releasing soon that I really can not wait for are the Special Anthologies for American Vampire and Batman Inc.

The incredible line ups on this book just seem to go from strength to strength. It was recently confirmed that Declan Shalvey will be working with Jason Aaron on a story Aaron described as the closest we will get to a American Vampire/ Scalped crossover. Becky Cloonan is on art duties for one of the installments with colours by the fantastic Jordie Bellaire.

Other names on the list that I can not wait to see in this anthology are Jeff Lemire and Francesco Francavilla.

For a preview of this check out this link http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=preview&id=17502

As you can see from the image to the left there will be a Bat Cow story, which I hope will be as good it has the potential to be. Along with a spotlight on many of the other characters within Batman Inc. I believe Declan Shalvey will be illustrating one of the stories in the issue, to see his take on the Bat check out his issue for the Digital first series Legends of the Dark Knight, and with Joe Keatinge on scribe duty for one of the members of Batman's army theres even more to look forward to.

These two comics will be out end of August!

X-Men Days of Future Past

So a new viral website for the next installment of Fox's X-Men franchise has arrived on the web. Trask Industries have a website detailing the Sentinels and also more about Peter Dinklage's Trask character and his role in the film.

With all the current time travelling going on in the comics, I am intrigued to see if Bryan Singer can pull this off, which I feel will be a difficult task, but I will wait to form a proper opinion when the first trailer finally arrives.

I'm still trying to work out how they will share the screen time considering the amount of stars cast for this film, if it works this will either make for the saving grace of the X-Franchise at Fox or could just be a frenzied mess.

Finally some posters have been released for two of the, four of the, well for some lead characters;

Doctor Who? The new Doctor Thats Who, announcement Sunday 04-08-2013!

Sunday, 02/08/2013, 7:00pm there will be a live announcement on the BBC revealing and announcing the new Doctor? Who do you think it will be? I gave up trying to guess a while back, after several of the rumoured actors to be taking the role all seemed good fits and I was finding it difficult to decide who would be the best fit. But now we don't have to wait much longer and come Sunday evening we will all know the face to be revealed this Christmas when the regeneration will commence.

Marvel: Original X-Men No more?

Released today during Axel-In-Charge, does this hint at the conclusion to the end of Battle of the Atom will the time displaced Original X-Men be no more?

Marvel: McNiven on Uncanny Avengers! Coipel on Guardians of the Galaxy?

McNiven was announced to be teaming up with Rick Remender, at SDCC '13, on Uncanny Avengers from this November, bringing his clean cut, action loving style to the heart of Remender's 'Ragnarok Now'. There really have been some great creative teams on several books since Marvel NOW! Uncanny Avengers began with Cassaday on art and currently has the fabulous Acuna, can not work out how to get the accent 'n' for the life of me, on art duties, not forgetting Coipel on issue 5. Remender really has been getting the top pedigree for his title. Being a huge fan of McNiven's work, Civil War, Old Man Logan and Guardians of the Galaxy, I can not wait to see him join Uncanny Avengers, one of my favourite Marvel titles at present.

Talking about top art talent the previously mentioned Coipel will be joining Guardians of the Galaxy, a previous McNiven title, as a fill in for a few issues, announced today during Alonso's weekly spot with Comic Book Resources, Coipel will be joining Brian Michael Bendis to help out on the title due to Sara Pichelli, the new regular artist on Guardians, unfortunately being taken ill with flu over the past few weeks, but thats all we got from Alonso as by that point he felt he had said to much already. Guardians is yet another book with a fantastic creative team behind it since launch with McNiven, Pichelli and Francavilla working on the title with Bendis. With these two announcements I can feel safe knowing that two of my favourite titles coming from Marvel will be keeping up there high artistic talent since the launch of these titles.
