All-New Marvel NOW! Teasers Galore, and there still coming... My Thoughts

So Marvel started teasing one word hints and creative teams for upcoming All-New Marvel NOW! projects from Wednesday last week and they have continued today, I wonder how many more there are still to come? I'm not convinced that these are all new titles and I have my guesses for a few.

"Trial" teased with the creative team of Brian Michael Bendis and Stuart Immonen and more to be revealed at the Amazing X-Men and the Marvel Universe Panel 11/10/2013 11:00am. Well what could this be, well my guess is that this may be to do with the X-Men's sudden passion for time travel, I am certain that Bendis said he hoped to cross his X-Men title with his other title Guardians of the Galaxy and considering the revelation between Thanos and Peter Quill in the most recent issue of Guardians of the Galaxy I am sure there is more to be answered for when it comes to the X-Men's recent abuse of the timeline. Considering this is to do with Bendis and Immonen I suggest it will be taking place within the pages of All-New X-Men and this is not teasing a new #1 issue.

"Judgement" teased with the creative team of Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli once again with more to be revealed at New York Comic Con at the Amazing X-Men and the Marvel Universe Panel. Considering the use of the flame filled font on both these teasers these must be linked. Pichelli is currently working on Guardians of the Galaxy with Bendis, and its because of these sets of creative teams that I believe this has something to do with a clash between the All-New X-Men and Guardians of the Galaxy. Chances are I may have this completely wrong, but because my memory is telling me Bendis first mentioned when he started on these titles that he hoped for them to cross paths at some point, well looks to me that All-New Marvel NOW! will be that point.

Right "Mindbubble" this is the one that has me a little stumped. Remender is currently working on Uncanny Avengers and Captain America. I know that Nic Klein will be joining Remender on Cap sometime soon but this may be just as a fill in for Pacheco. My guess is that considering the work load Remender currently has this is not another new #1 issue but a All-New Marvel NOW! jumping on point for one of his titles. Considering the art team and also the fact that McNiven is currently on Uncanny Avengers my best guess is that this has something to do with Captain America. I may well be surprised come the Avengers Panel at NYCC on 11/10/2013 @ 4:00pm. But at this point my money is on the next big story for Captain America.

SILVER SURFER! Well that is what I am 99.9999999 percent sure this "RAD!" is teasing. Slott when setting up at a con apparently accidentally has his desktop displayed on a projector screen and on this desktop were files or a file relating to Silver Surfer. Another reason I hope I am completely correct is one of my favourite titles from the first Marvel NOW! was FF with Allred on art and I very much want this to be him drawing a Silver Surfer comic. This will be announced and hopefully confirmed at the Inhumanity & All-New Marvel NOW! Panel so this must be a new #1!

Unfortunately Peter David is a writer whos work I follow other than the fact I know he most recently wrote and brought to an end his run on X-Factor. Considering the very little I know regarding the creators on this teaser I can only go with the rumours I have been reading on the internet and that is that this will be a X-Factor comic, a new beginning of sorts coming as part of the All-New Marvel NOW! wave. To be announced at the Amazing X-Men and the Marvel Universe Panel it looks like Marvel are planning on having a very busy and exciting NYCC this year. I have the dates in my calendar and the times of the panels, I do not want to miss any of this news in 1 weeks time.

Another reveal with Slott's name on it and his frequent collaborator and current Spider-Man artist Giuseppe Camuncoli. "The End" well Doc Ock's Superior Spider-Man initiative seems to be hitting the rocks recently which is making for one of the most entertaining books currently being released, but all good things have to come to an end right? Not everyone is convinced this is to do with Superior Spider-Man, but writing 2 issues of Spidey a month and also with the most recent "Rad!" teaser I don't think Slott would have time for another on-going, some sites have mentioned a limited series but considering the panel this is teased for, the Superior Spider-Man & Friends panel this can only be to do with Spider-Man himself. Maybe more will be made clear come the teased to be important issue at the end of October. But for now my money is on this seeing the return of Peter Parker, and well just in time for that movie coming out in May.

Another All-New Marvel NOW! teaser I don't believe is related to a new #1 issue. Hickman and Spencer have recently been co-writing Avengers and Spencer is also on Secret Avengers, Caselli has recently worked on Avengers with Hickman. I can't see there really being another Avengers title considering the amount of them there already are, Avengers, New Avengers, Secret Avengers, Mighty Avengers, Uncanny Avengers, Avengers Arena, Young Avengers and Avengers A.I., although a few of them will be coming to their natural end soon. No this must be to do with the next stage in Hickman's big plan for the Avengers, currently in the middle of Inhumanity and with the .NOW issue of Avengers revealed for December I think this will have something to do with the next phase of Avengers.

I have read up a little on this one with other comic news sites. But I already knew Soule has recently come on to Thunderbolts for the Infinity tie-ins. One theory was this has something to do with Deadpool considering Barbieri's history with the character, however with Duggan and Posehn doing such a sterling job on that character and Sinners being plural this really hints at being a team of characters. With Soule currently on Thunderbolts and the current odd makeup and direction of the title this may be a re-hash which Soule will be leading the charge with. I have to take most of my speculation from the likes of CBR and Newsarama and come to the conclusion that this will be a Thunderbolts book, whether this will start again from #1 or just be receiving some form of All-New Marvel NOW! treatment all will be known come the end of the Amazing X-Men and the Marvel Universe Panel.

"HIGHER" + Kelly Sue DeConnick = CAPTAIN MARVEL! Good old Carol Danvers, I can't imagine this being anything else and don't think I really need to explain much further, with Captain Marvel's recent absence from solicitations this must have something to do with the character. I regret not continuing to pick up Captain Marvel especially as currently some of my favourite titles are the $2.99 issues which seem to team up some great artists with brilliant writers. So I do hope this is more to come from Captain Marvel!

Well this looks like Marvel's NYCC schedule is going to be jam packed, and something tells me this isn't the end of the teasers yet and there are still more to come during this week. Expect these teasers to be related to books coming out in February, or possibly January, but I imagine that most publishers will be releasing there January solicitations next week before NYCC.

Eurogamer Expo 2013 My Thoughts, The Winners, The Losers...

Eurogamer Expo 2013, I had the privilege of visiting this both yesterday and today, a fast track pass to play the PS4 yesterday and ran to the Nintendo booth this morning.

Winners: Handheld Consoles, Pokemon X & Y, Tearaway, Destiny, Beyond Two Souls

Losers: Not once did I want to try, join, or see the XBOX One, sorry Microsoft the 360 served me so well but these times they are changing.

I will get a more detailed write up hopefully Sunday, but I have another convention tomorrow, and very little time to update here, but all going well I will have a chance before next week.

Deadpool #17 My Comic of the Week 25/09/2013

Deadpool #17

Marvel Comics

Writer: Gerry Duggan/ Brian Posehn

Artist: Declan Shalvey

Colourist: Jordie Bellaire

Well this title is currently delayed by a week in the UK and will not be with us till this coming Wednesday. But I have been enjoying this Deadpool tale so much I could not wait that long and grabbed myself a digital copy on the Marvel Comics App.

This story seems to be going from strength to strength from all aspects from writing to the art. This is another action packed issue where you get to see the team up originally promised of Deadpool, Wolverine and Captain America. This is not a team up you would expect to work but with a great script by Duggan and Posehn brought to life by Shalvey and Bellaire it just does and there are great moments between the three and also the supporting cast of X-Men clones.

After the revelations from last issue of these clones being produced by Butler for the North Korean military and having found both Wolverine and Captain America in some form of cryo stasis Deadpool releases the two of them and explains the situation. The camp bringing back memories for Cap, displayed in the earlier panels, realises he has to do something and with the help of Deadpool and Wolverine they work to capture the camp and release the captive X-Men clones.

How does this begin, well with Deadpool knuckledusters of course and a new rhyme "One... Two... Three... Four... I declare an actual War." During this fight for freedom comes some brilliant moments with Wolverine attempting to teach the cloned Colossus and cloned version of himself a signature move the "Fastball Special" which results in hilarity. The difference in how the three main characters deal with the task at hand, the insanity of Deadpool, the savageness of Wolverine and the disciplined military nature of Captain America gives some great lines, culminating in my favourite panel of the issue. A full page of the three characters with lines that help to distinct there personalities bizarrely through how these differences complement each other so well. Oh and when your reading the issue make sure to keep an eye out for the kitten plaster, need I say more?

The underlying story driving this book is Deadpool's fight against the main antagonist Butler, and even though with all the action and great character moments this is always evident, does Deadpool have a daughter? Is it a surprise he can't be sure? This is why he needs Butler for answers. By the end of the book you know more about Butler's motives and Deadpool also now knows where to find him.

I could quite happily review this comic panel by panel from each great illustration, conversation, moment of comedy and so much more but all you really need to know is that this is turning out to be one of the best Deadpool stories in a long while, definitely that I have read and with the addition of Wolverine and Cap is turning out to be one of the greatest team-up books I have read in some time. Duggan and Posehn don't just possess a great way of portraying and writing Deadpool's character from the many sides he has from the personalities, comedian, to the assassin but they also write fantastic dialogue for both Wolverine and Captain America bringing the character's and personality to life so well.

But with great scripts you need a great art team and Posehn and Duggan have that in Declan Shalvey and Jordie Bellaire. The panelling of the issue is easy to read and illustrations pace and play the story out in a great way from the conversations to the action scenes, that solitary shield announcing the beginning of the battle. Declan does a great job of drawing action helping you to imagine the movement of the characters. This is an aspect of Declan's work I have loved from Venom to now, the energy in the line and the posture he creates for the characters he draws to life and with the help of Jordie on colours this brings even more life to this already buzzing book. From small things like the colours of the background displaying how time has gone by throughout the comic to the colours used in the explosions, destruction, laser blast, fire and characters bring the story to life even further, the textures and palettes are just gorgeous to look at.

Thankfully with Deadpool seeming to be coming out twice a month its only a two week wait for the next issue. This has become one of those books that I can not wait for the next issue of. I have been showing this story to my friend who has recently got into comics and plan to nag him until he reads it, much like I did with passing my copy of Civil War around for friends to read, for me this is a must have comic and I look forward to issue 18.

Marvel Avengers Alliance spoil an Infinity plot point? (Potential Infinity SPOILERS)

Bleeding Cool reported on Friday that a new Avengers Alliance Spec Op based around the current Infinity event may have revealed an important character yet to appear in the series. Now who could that possibly be. Well if you have been reading the current event, you would know that Thanos is currently on a search to hunt down his son, and for some reason he does not want this son to be alive. Systematically going world to world requesting tributes of all men aged between late teens to early twenties. What do you call Thanos' son, well Thane of course, and no thats not Thane from Mass Effect. Bleeding Cool managed to get a description of the character;

"I used to be just a man. Just another healer, nobody of consequence, plying my trade among my people. And then Thanos arrived. How did I get these horrible powers? Why? Did they come from him? All I know is that just as he came to Earth, I… changed. Suddenly I had the power of life and death in my hands. But I could not control it, and the people around me paid the price. Everyone that I had once healed, everyone I knew… dead. I ran before I could kill again, only to find an even greater murderer in my path. Thanos and his lieutenants were coming… for me. This Thanos creature… what does he want from me? If I give myself up to him, will he stop killing people? Or will he just use my powers to kill even more? I need someone to help me understand what I am… what I’ve become. Is that you, Agent? Do you think you can control death itself? I doubt it. But the truth is, I have no other choice. I cannot go back to the way I was, and I cannot go to Thanos. That leaves me with you. But I warn you. Try to use my powers for evil, and I’ll show you what they can do… in abundance."

This description really does link in with the character briefly seen in New Avengers by Doctor Strange a healer in a secluded village among his people. Clearly still human at this point. If Thane as pictured above really does turn out to be the son of Thanos his powers are somewhat ironic having the power of life and death considering his father has an obsession with the latter. The Thane pictured in Avengers Alliance is clearly in his Inhuman form and considering the Terrigen Mists will soon be spread across Earth giving all Inhumans there hidden potential and powers it should not be long until we see him appear in Infinity if this is indeed the character he is believed to be.

I may be remembering this incorrectly but in an interview with a Marvel editor I am sure they mentioned that during All-New Marvel NOW! we will be seeing a new on-going series based on a completely new character. Now considering Thane's power set and his obvious integral role in Infinity, being the thing Thanos is hunting, could this new on-going series be based on this character. Do you think this Thane from Avengers Alliance is indeed the son of Thanos? I find it odd that they would release this Spec Op before the reveal within Infinity but at least we don't have long to wait to see if it is true.

The great talent on Marvel's "Arms of the Octopus"

I have been meaning to write about this since the October solicits and with the most recent preview art on Comic Book Resources this triggered this long dormant thought. October sees writer Mike Costa joined by some great talent on art to bring us the "Arms of the Octopus" bringing All New X-Men, Superior Spider-Man and Indestructible Hulk together within a special issue of each title. Why has this got me so excited well the artists on the issues has. Kris Anka, known for his work on covers, most recently I can think of Uncanny X-Force, will be bringing his illustrative talents to All New X-Men #1. Michael Dialynas most recently on Amala's Blade from Dark Horse  will be drawing Superior Spider-Man Special #1 and from looking at the preview art so far this is gonna be one fantastic looking book. The last of these three talented artists for me to mention is Jake Wyatt, Jake is the artist I am least well pretty much wasn't familiar with but since seeing his preview pages I have checked out his blog and this dude can draw. Jake is also accompanied by the brilliant Jordie Bellaire on colours for his work and the preview pages are looking gorgeous. Want to see more from Jake I strongly recommend checking out his blog and Tumblr by clicking his name above, where he is currently beginning his online comic which looks really interesting and the art is great.

My thoughts on Knuckleheads #1 to #3

Knuckleheads #1 to #3

Writer: Brian Winkeler
Art By: Robert Wilson IV
Colours: Jordan Boyd
Letters: Thomas Mauer

What happens when you let a lay about, video game playing, tv watching, pizza eating, slob get implanted with some sort of jagged crystal knuckle duster that channels the power of “The Crystal Light”. Well you get Trevor K Trevinski . We are introduced to Trevor as he goes about what is clearly his usual day to day life this new found power from the crystal attached to his knuckles only used to cheat on Video Games and get free Netflix, seeing as I would probably have done exactly the same thing I like how Trevor thinks. The sidekick position seems to have been taken up by Trevor’s roommate Lance who, as most would, questions why on earth would aliens give this power to a bum like his friend. Also we get introduced, who I at first only thought of as being an extra, to the Pizza Guy. There is great chemistry between these three characters.

Knucklehead isn’t your usual super hero comic; in fact I am not sure it contains a Super Hero. Why do I say this? Well Trevor is only led to help the city against the giant Godzilla like alien invader because it cuts the power to his apartment, therefore not allowing him to carry on mooching about and playing video games. The moment he confronts the monster he immediately scarpers like the coward he is, well at least until he realises there is a damsel in distress and once again this is no heroic act other than an opportunity to save a sexy lady. Whether meant or not when reading this I felt that the support cast are the real heroes helping to point Trevor in the right direction in turn creating this unconventional hero. It is the supporting cast that gave me many of my favourite moments, Lance’s evil glare of hatred at Trevor, the Pizza Guys explanation for being late with the pizza when Trevor was trying to get the pizza for free, to when it turns out the Pizza Guy carries around both pepper spray and condoms, enter improvised mace grenade with the line “Go, Condom, Go!” Out of these two characters it is Lance who does more of the pushing of his friend towards the heroic path, also clearly showing Lance would have been a much better host for this crystal knuckle.

Inevitably Trevor rises to the occasion, unlocking the power of his crystal knuckle duster who would have thought he could fly? and beats the monster saving the Damsel in Distress and in turn the city he lives in. Is this his trigger point to become a hero? Well we won’t find out till next issue but clearly this was the most exercise Trevor had done in some time as the moment clearly took its toll on him throwing up on the woman he had just saved and collapsing much to my amusement as I am sure once you throw up all over a woman your chances of getting lucky are incredible low. What adventures will these characters be moving on to? That’s not quite clear but there is one thing for sure there will be pancakes.

Brian Winkeler does a great job of writing a relatable character giving a realistic view of what many would do if they suddenly received this power, I mean without that Uncle Ben moment or your Parents being murdered in an alley what reason do you have to become a hero? Brian incorporates some fun pop culture reference, the video game obsessed hero channelling his power through a Wii remote is a favourite of mine. Let’s not forget the art from Robert Wilson IV, this is the first work of his I have seen and teaming up with colourist Jordan Boyd the duo create some great visuals and action packed scenes. The use of panelling is done great to pace the story from the big panels containing action scenes to the smaller panels following conversations. Incorporating several of the sound effects for the ensuing action into the scene’s is great from the “KRASH” to the “SPLOSH”. The colours from Jordan Boyd really helping to bring Wilson VI’s art further to life, with the constant reminder of the destruction on my mind with the oranges and dots of yellow on the horizon, the fires throughout the city caused by the battle. There is also a great little 2 page look at how they came up with the covers from Robert, explaining how they came up with the first cover plus the logo. How to make a digital comic stand out in that small stamp on a page full of many others, described by Wilson VI the stamp sized image shows everything they needed to say about the hero in Knuckleheads “bathrobe, superpowers, pizza, pants optional!” and I agree.

I really enjoyed these three issues and whether you think Trevor is a hero or not, Trevor, Lance and Pizza Guy really make a great team, and they make for one funny comic and one fun heroic adventure. Three issues in, alien beaten and clearly the cast set up I truly hope that they keep these 3 dudes together and something tells me we will see more of the damsel in distress.

Ming Doyle Joins Quantum and Woody in November with issue 5

I'm a strong believer in supporting your favourite creators. Having worked on an issue of the Guardians of the Galaxy Infinite online comic and most recently with Brian Wood and Jordie Bellaire on Mara Ming Doyle brings her wonderful illustration style to Quantum and Woody in November yet another new title to add to my monthly pick list!

Ross Campbell on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in December!

Well this was announced at the end of last week, but having had a busy weekend I didn't get a chance to hop on the blog, so I'm giving the app a shot on my break. Ross Campbell will be joining TMNT for the next storyline post City Fall. Having watched the programme as a kid and having all the action figures I look forward to finally picking up a comic with these characters with the extra highlight of Ross Campbell art!

DC Comics Animal Man #25 Preview

It is nice to be able to write something positive about DC considering all negative press regarding the team on Batwoman recently. But Rafael Alberquerque, the incredible artist from American Vampire, begins his work on Animal Man come issue #25. This was announced some time ago and is only a positive for the title, and considering these preview images this comic looks like it will have a great visual style! The preview art looks great and I will certainly be looking to pick this up come release day!

The Day of the Doctor

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special gets a cinematic poster! I am really looking forward to this special, the return of Tennant and also the arrival and more about John Hurt's forgotten Doctor.

Marvel Reveals some of the Inhumanity December Tie-Ins

So far Inhumanity looks to be crossing over with some of the major titles come December including one new title to spiral out of Infinity: The Hunt. New Avengers #13 looks like it will mainly be focusing on the big dogs, Black Bolt and the already established Inhumans. Daredevil will be joining Avengers A.I for the December issue and its Inhumanity tie in. A little more was revealed with the cover for Indestructible Hulk come December, that definitely looks like some sort of weapon he is working on. Warren Ellis will be joining Kelly Sue DeConnick on Avengers Assemble in December. Finally the new title to focus on the youth of the Marvel Universe looks like they will be heading to Inhumanity: The Awakening written by Matt Kindt. I'm sure we will find out more come tomorrow when Marvel release there December solicitations.

My Thoughts and Review for Deadpool #15

Deadpool #15
Writer: Gerry Duggan/ Brian Posehn
Artist: Declan Shalvey
Colourist: Jordie Bellaire
Since reading the Zombie President’s arc at the beginning of Deadpool’s Marvel NOW treatment I have continued to hear good things about the series and with issue #15 I decided to hop back on the title and I am very glad I did.
Deadpool has always been a favourite character of mine since I started reading his Secret Invasion title and his on-going that continued out of that. He is a character that provides humour that at times inappropriate or an ice breaker I find to be refreshing in a comic and Posehn and Duggan do a great job of interpreting this side of the character. This issue is filled with laughs, although the serious undertone and situation Deadpool finds himself in still manages to come through.
The title “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly”, considering the characters in this arc, is genius and Deadpool’s interactions with his X-Force team mate Wolverine, and Captain America bring some of the funniest moments while still managing to contain plot development throughout.
Another part of Deadpool’s character that really stood out to me, and which I may have noticed sooner if I continued to pick up the title, is his new found ‘Female Intuition’ seeing as he now has the mind of his S.H.I.E.L.D. minder to join his already fun filled over active thoughts.
So some of my favourite moments to follow, one being when Deadpool  goes all Downton Abbey on us for his meeting with Wolverine. Infiltrating the hotel Wolverine is staying in, in a butler costume, to request his help. This leads to one of my favourite moments in the comic with Deadpool’s short but sweet interaction with Storm, “Bye Storm”, and his woman’s intuition’s opinion. That Storm should know better don’t you know? The interaction between Cap and Deadpool during a fight with some A.I.M goons is a joy to read, the thought of Cap needing a “Shrink” which turns out to be his barber is brilliant.
Deadpool’s living conditions are not much to be desired, bunking down in Crime Scenes overnight, which really gives us a good idea of Deadpool’s mental state and also provides yet more great interaction between Deadpool’s own thoughts and those of his knew tenant, Preston, in that crazy brain o’his.
Well this is a Deadpool comic so there has to be some gun toting at some point queue the arrival of Wolverine and then the imminent arrival of Deadpool’s abductors and some great action sequences as Wolverine and Deadpool commence to take down the heavily armed abductors. This issue finishes on a great little cliff hanger, despite all his fight and Wolverine’s help Deadpool still gets caught and we see him all test tubed up. This is a well-paced issue, with plenty of laughs and great action, an encouraging start to this new arc from the creative team.
Let’s talk art shall we? Declan Shalvey and Jordie Bellaire, well known for their cover work together most recently on Winter Soldier and Venom, now given the opportunity to work together on interiors. If you know me you would know I am an avid fan of Shalvey’s and Bellaire’s work. Declan brings his A game to this book with his energetic line and style for great action sequences. It also helps when you can draw a great Cap and Wolverine along with your lead character illustrating fantastic interaction sequences between them. Bellaire’s colours are superb. I’m no master when it comes to art and colouring but having previously been a painter like to think I may see a technique or two. There is something to the layers of colour used by Bellaire and the painterly style that I see in her work that really draws me to it. The great use of shades of colour from dark to light to create the depth and shape to the scenes, objects and characters.

At first I was buying this comic to support some of my favourite creators in Declan Shalvey and Jordie Bellaire. But having enjoyed issues 1-6 from Duggan and Posehn originally also helped me to return to the title. The writers bring a great humour to Deadpool, and I now really regret having stopped picking the title up after #6 till now and certainly have some catching up to do. They bring the humour and action you expect and teamed with Shalvey and Bellaire this has potential, and if this first issue is anything to go by, to be a great Deadpool tale.

Marvel reveal All-New Marvel NOW!

Marvel have announced, at the beginning of this week, All-New Marvel NOW! Well easier to think of as Marvel NOW 2! Considering the success of Marvel NOW! it is no surprise they will be using the initiative again to springboard other titles to the fore front of the Marvel Universe, it worked for X-Men and it worked for Guardians of the Galaxy and Nova, will we see the same work for the Inhumans and other All-New Marvel NOW! titles still to be announced. The one new title announced is All New Invaders, combining the former WW2 team in the present form of Cap, Namor, Human Torch and Winter Soldier. Another is the previously announced Inhuman from Fraction and Madureira these two titles will be arriving in January 2014. It has also been announced that Avengers will get a 24.NOW issue allowing new readers a jumping on point including a digital code to catch up on previous issues, which also seems to be focusing more on the incursions that have been taking place within the pages of New Avengers considering the title "Rogue Planet". For cover images check out the pictures below.

Marvel Teases Inhumanity December 2013

Last week saw a week full of teaser images from Marvel comics, and the outcome was revealed at the end of the week. An image for Inhumanity, drawn by Olivier Coipel was released with an image of the Inhuman families shattering, does this have any significance to the upcoming title. Inhumanity begins in December 2013 but the changing point is being teased for Issue #3 of Infinity on September 18th, all will be revealed. I for one can not wait for the chance to understand the Inhumans more, Marvel NOW! has done a great job of bringing the X-Titles and Cosmic titles to the forefront of the Marvel Universe alongside everyday titles like Avengers, Spider-Man and Fantastic Four and I hope and look forward to the same with the Inhumans.

Young Avengers Signing at Gosh! Comics London

This Week's Stack 04/09/2013

A two week break... So what have I missed? Heres the news that caught my eye.

This is in no way going to be in chronological order, I have been on holiday for a week and could not find time since returning to work to get on here for some updates, but here come some updates for what has caught my eye over the past two weeks and possibly before.

My Highlights from the Comics News

The previously announced creative team up of Jonathan Ross and Ian Churchill finally has some more info in the form of a poster confirming the title and also when to expect the first issue January 2014 is when we shall expect to see this hit our shelves, being a fan of both I am very much looking forward to this title. Jonathan Ross has had much success since delving into the realm of writing comics, Turf was received very well, combined with great art from Tommy Lee Edward. His most recent Image Comics project Americas Got Powers should be receiving its final issue some time soon as Bryan Hitch announced that the final issue has been sent to print. But at least we now have a date for Ross' next project and the image certainly creates more questions than answers.

Matteo Scalera will be lending his fantastic art to he and Remender's upcoming creator owned Image Comics title Black Science, with colours from Dean White, MTV Geek got hold of this cover by Scalera for the upcoming first issue in November. Scalera is currently illustrating Indestructible Hulk and is producing some of the best art for that series and that I have seen from him, with his high energy inks and ability to create action scenes which jump at you off the page. Scalera has previously worked with Remender on Secret Avengers and I can not wait to see them team up once more for this spiritual successor to Fear Agent. Which I must confess I am still ploughing through the Fear Agent Library Volume 1.

So first of all Winter Soldier gets cancelled and the most recent get the hit is Journey Into Mystery. Now the news has been released that in November Venom from Cullen Bunn and a great creative team of artists will be coming to an end. This is just before the big Venom arc in Superior Spider-Man. I have been really enjoying this series Bunn has done great things since taking over from Remender and with the most recent Symbiote character Mania has created another great character to join the symbiote family. Another of the highlights for the series most recently has been the covers created by Declan Shalvey and Jordie Bellaire. It is my hope that this is due to possible future plans or even a Marvel NOW 2! title.

Forever Evil #1 and Villains month has begun, and with the announcement of 3D covers among new prices $3.99 for each title, and then the news that they have not even managed to print enough of the 3D covers to fulfill orders from retailers. With them announcing a villain will be taking over each title every week for the month I originally took up the stance of cancelling all these titles but I have since took another look and there are some I will be looking to pick up.

An Anthology containing some great team ups from some of the best in the business in American Vampire Anthology. This was a great way to keep the American Vampire fans happy while the main story is currently on hold at Vertigo, Snyder is certainly on a lot of books recently and Alberquerque has deservedly been receiving more work soon to team up with Jeff Lemire on Animal Man and providing covers for B.P.R.D. My highlights of the Anthology, Jason Aaron and Declan Shalvey's contribution, a great tale about the arrival of "Europeans" to the shores of America. Becky Cloonan's Skinner Sweet story and also Gail Simone's and Tula Tolay's installment, the first time I have seen the work of Tula Tolay and it was great. I highly recommend you pick this up.

My book of the month for August, that I recently brought from Orbital Comics, the staff there so very kindly ordered a copy in for me. Having recently read Essex County and most recently begun his new Vertigo title Trillium. This is another heartfelt read. The hand illustration and style really suit the heartfelt story so well. I still stand by my thoughts that if you are looking for something not like your standard superhero comic books Jeff Lemire's work, Essex County and Underwater Welder are well worth picking up. I understand he has other creator owned works which I plan on picking up but for now if you are looking for something more current from him you should definitely check out Trillium!

Having recently listened to Pop Culture Hound's podcast with Sam Humphries I was intrigued about his work before Marvel Sacrifice. Humphries is currently writing Uncanny X-Force and is also the writer of Avengers A.I. This is a very good read with art that goes from strength to strength the further you get through the title. A story about a young man who suffers from Epilepsy and seizures who during these somehow ends up back in time with the Aztec's. I do not want to give anything away about this book and really would hand this out to friends to read. This has a great ending, which involves a movie like sequence that when I read it I imagine as a scene from a film. The guys at Orbital once again kindly ordered me in a copy after selling out of this and I really appreciate it!

What I've Played and other Gaming News

Nintendo recently announced the arrival of the Nintendo 2DS, this will be hitting shelves on November 12th alongside Pokemon X&Y. I will be writing more about this at a later date, but I must admit when I first read about this I laughed in Nintendo's face but in a future post I will write about how I have had a change of heart

Nintendo had one of their Nintendo Direct conferences during the week highlighting more about their upcoming Pokemon title X & Y. Mega Evolutions will be coming for the original starters. Along with news of the Poke Bank a system which will have a fee but also create a way for you to transfer Pokemon from Black, White, Black 2 and White 2 through a cloud storage system. Along with storing all the Pokemon you could hope to catch. Not long now for this to be released and I am desperately saving up to be able to get a copy, although I have pre-ordered this.

My game of the month for August and also the only game that I have completed in some time The Last of Us. This is a very very clever game, with great character development, heart stopping moments and easy to use game play. Apart from the fact that when I ever hear anyone clicking I get a little on edge. I hope to get a proper review up for this soon.

Movie and TV News

So one of my last announcements bring about the casting Ben Affleck as Batman in the Man of Steel sequel there has been even more interesting casting news since. It became strongly rumoured and then finally confirmed that Bradley Cooper will be providing the voice for Rocket Raccoon, joining the already star studded cast for Marvel's upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy.

Another heavy rumour which I am still not sure whether this has been confirmed is that Vin Diesel will providing the voice of Groot. He has been making strong hints at having some role within a Marvel film since visiting the building recently and several Facebook posts. At first it was strongly rumoured he could be playing Vision in the Avengers sequel after posting an image on Facebook, but this has since been denied, with the new title for the Avengers sequel being Avengers Age of Ultron. However most recently it has been announced that he will be voicing Groot and after having past experience with voice acting in Iron Giant it could be true.Vin Diesel during his most recent interviews while promoting Riddick has spoken of how he became the voice of Groot so this seems to be all but confirmed. Just waiting on an official announcement from Marvel.

So the news was made that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be aired on Channel 4 in the UK and now we have the official date and time. The programme will debut on 27/09/2013 at 8pm, just 3 days after its debut in America. So all Channel 4 now need to work on is releasing a HD channel before this date. I'll certainly be saving this to my Freeview+ box.

Another rumour that seems to have picked up some steam recently is that Katee Sackhoff is looking to be doing some work with Marvel Studios early next year, this has lead people to believe she will indeed be picking up the role of Captain Marvel in Avengers Age of Ultron with the impending arrival of the character to Phase 3 of the Marvel Movie Universe. Since this rmour appeared I can't stop thinking that Starbuck is pretty much Captain Marvel just without the powers.

Finally
